Apple's iOS 27.2 has reached its third developer beta and second public beta, with the final release expected in late October. It's the first major update regular iPhone owners will get after iOS 27 — as for 27.1, it was never meant for you: Apple reserved that version number for the foldable iPhone Duo, which goes on sale October 23.
The odd numbering has a backstory. According to 9to5Mac, iOS 27.1 is exclusive to the iPhone Duo — Apple's first foldable iPhone, with pre-orders opening October 16 in more than 70 countries and sales starting October 23 — so Apple could keep unreleased hardware references out of the code everyone else downloads. The Xcode 27.1 beta already ships with the Duo simulator and foldable-display developer kit. For everyone else, the upgrade path jumps straight from iOS 27, released September 14, to 27.2.
Apple promised the new Siri AI languages for October, and they ship inside 27.2 — so the final release has to land before November. TechFeatured's analysis: three developer betas in about a month, plus the Duo's October 23 launch, points to the most likely window being the last week of October or the first week of November. Impatient users can try the public beta — Apple pushed the second public beta on October 6.
The headline feature of 27.2 is the fully redesigned Health app (debuted at the iPhone 18 Pro event); the beta already lets users schedule and purchase lab tests through Quest Diagnostics. Siri AI gains five new languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Other changes: Dual Capture comes to Group FaceTime, Apple TV app profiles arrive on iPhone, Podcasts renames "Up Next" to "New Episodes" with color-matched episode backgrounds, the Clock app's alarm interface gets smaller AM/PM labels, and the Phone app adds anniversary reminders.
Beyond the shipping features, code digging has surfaced several in-development additions: an anti-snatching lock for iPhone, a built-in threat detection system, live countdowns for new album releases in Apple Music, third-party app support for Describe a Shortcut, and new CarPlay Ultra themes — none live in the beta yet, but all signs of what's being built. On performance, Apple has optimized single- and multi-core scheduling and improved power management, promising quicker app launches and longer battery life. According to Appleosophy, the third developer beta carries build number 24B5099f, and Apple simultaneously seeded iPadOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, and macOS 27.2 (codenamed "Golden Gate") betas. As usual, expect one or two more betas to polish things off before the final release.
