Hong Kong Names Unlimit a Strategic Enterprise, Cements Regional Payments Hub
Hong Kong's Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES) held a signing ceremony on October 22, selecting Unlimit as a Strategic Enterprise and positioning Hong Kong as its flagship Asia-Pacific hub for cross-border payments and multi-currency settlement. The company signed a partnership agreement with the Hong Kong government, reinforcing its commitment to expanding in one of Asia's leading financial centres. Unlimit joins a select group of businesses under the OASES programme, which targets international companies in strategically important sectors such as FinTech and artificial intelligence and offers tailored support to help them establish and grow in Hong Kong.
Unlimit is a global financial infrastructure company whose proprietary payment network spans more than 180 countries. Strategic Enterprise status gives it government-backed support for expanding cross-border payments capabilities across Asia-Pacific. The company plans to use Hong Kong as a gateway for broader regional expansion, helping businesses enter new markets and facilitate cross-border transactions through its network.
The announcement follows Unlimit's acquisition of a Hong Kong Money Service Operator (MSO) licence in August 2026, further strengthening its regulatory footprint in the region. Michele Fung, Head of APAC at Unlimit, said being selected as a Strategic Enterprise is a strong recognition of Unlimit's role in the region and its long-term ambitions, and that Hong Kong is one of the world's most important financial centres and a key base for the next phase of growth.
OASES was established in 2022 under the Financial Secretary's Office and has brought in more than 140 strategic enterprises to date. The October 22 batch comprised 18 enterprises with total investment commitments exceeding HK$10 billion (about US$1.28 billion), spanning advanced manufacturing and FinTech, with half from the Chinese mainland and half from overseas. Unlimit's move also reflects rising demand for payment infrastructure that lets businesses move money seamlessly across multiple markets and currencies.
OASES selected Unlimit on October 22, signing a partnership to anchor the company's Asia-Pacific hub for cross-border payments and multi-currency settlement.
