Pikmin 4 Gets a Second Life on Switch 2, and the Demo Lands First
Shigeru Miyamoto appeared on camera on October 31 for a surprise Pikmin Day Direct, where he declared November 1 an official Pikmin Day. According to Game Informer, the presentation centered on news for the Pikmin franchise, with the headliner being Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, due November 12.
The full Switch 2 Edition arrives November 12, 2026. Newcomers can buy the bundle outright, with the physical edition listed at $69.99 at US retailers including Amazon and GameStop, according to GameFragger. Players who already own Pikmin 4 on the original Switch can instead buy a $9.99 Upgrade Pack on the eShop. PixelHerald reports the upgrade is a 1.2 GB download, while the full bundle takes 12.8 GB on Switch 2, versus 11.3 GB for the original game, which launched July 21, 2023 at $59.99.
A free demo hits the Nintendo eShop on November 2, ten days before launch. According to DualShockers, it contains one regular level and two Dandori Academy levels. Spanish outlet Nintenduo adds that the opening area is the Sun-Speckled Terrace, and that demo save data transfers to the full game, so early starters lose nothing.
The headline addition is Dandori Academy, a timed exam mode built around the series' art of commanding Pikmin efficiently: planning routes, splitting squads, and wasting no trips. Nintendo says 72 stages will be released over time rather than all at launch. According to Nintendo-Difference, six stages of varying difficulty arrive each month. GameSpot reports the structure: players plan their best route, then take exams running every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with only a single attempt allowed, earning in-game medals. The Direct showcased one exam, Gargantuan Garden, where players collect gold nuggets against the clock, per Insider Gaming.
The Switch 2 Edition upgrades the adventure with improved high-resolution visuals in TV and handheld mode, GameShare support for Dandori Battles, and voice commands for Oatchi, the rescue-dog companion, issued through the Switch 2 microphone. Game Informer notes players can say things like "Rush" to direct the dog mid-mission.
Beyond the game, a second animated short arrives November 1, with one new video per month starting in December, and Pikmin Bloom gets a cinematic trailer for Secret Caves, a winter 2026 feature requiring players to discover a cave map. With the Treehouse Plays showcase streaming November 1 at 9 AM PT and the demo out the next day, players will know within a week whether the Academy hooks them before they buy.
