Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Starts Year Two With Version 2.0.0, Adding Duel Mode and 15 New Gadgets
SEGA says the second year of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds content begins on November 3 with Version 2.0.0. The update adds one-on-one Duel Mode, the Grand Master Plate and a seventh Super Slot, 15 new gadgets, and changes to World Match, daily missions and Festival events. SEGA has also outlined a roadmap of free characters and paid collaborations. At the time of reporting, the full official patch notes had not yet been published, so platform rollout status should be checked in-game.
Duel Mode puts two racers head-to-head. Its Duel Boost gauge fills over time and through item use, allowing the trailing racer to trigger a speed burst. Players can see an opponent's items, gadgets and position. Formats include offline Rival Duel, online Free Match, limited-time Best-of-10 events and customizable races with friends. Best-of-10 is a limited-time event, not a permanent queue.
The Grand Master Plate adds a seventh Super Slot reserved for one-slot gadgets and further boosts the effect of an item placed there. The update also adds 15 gadgets and adjusts gadget effects, racing stats, machine types and CPU opponents. Online ring respawn times will be shortened, and players can bookmark gadgets and use additional filters.
World Match gains a Free Match option that does not affect rankings. Defeating new Rivals can earn additional Donpa Tickets. Play Missions lets players complete daily objectives to receive Tickets and Medals.
Festivals will last 10 days instead of three, and rankings will switch to Winning Streak Rankings. AI Rival Teams will be added, and online play will award more types of Crowns. Other changes include a new music album, collaboration decals, gadget bookmarking and filters, and bug fixes.
The first free characters announced for Year Two are Bayonetta, McLaren Racing (Sonic) and Aigis. Bayonetta is scheduled for November 3 and can be unlocked through Rival Duel. McLaren Racing is planned for later in November, while Aigis is scheduled for early 2027.
The paid Godzilla Pack includes a new course, three themed machines, additional music and sounds. It is part of Season Pass Two and is separate from the free Version 2.0.0 update. SEGA's longer-term roadmap also lists collaborations involving EVANGELION, Virtual Sanrio Puroland, SEGALAND, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Persona.
SEGA, the official Steam announcement and PlayStation Blog confirmed that Year Two begins on November 3. Push Square reported that the full official patch notes had not yet been published at the time of its story that day. This article is based on SEGA's roadmap, platform announcements and media previews; it does not assume that every platform has completed its rollout. Players should check their game version and platform-store notices for availability.
