The Elder Scrolls VI Is Officially Titled Sentinel, but Bethesda Offers No Release Date
Bethesda Game Studios has officially revealed the full title of its next mainline Elder Scrolls game: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The name appeared at the end of a video celebrating the studio's 40th anniversary, with executive producer Todd Howard introducing the reveal. It is the clearest official update on the game since its announcement at E3 2018. But the announcement was limited: Bethesda did not provide a release date, launch window, platform list, gameplay demonstration or new in-game footage.
In the anniversary video, Todd Howard reflects on the studio's games and the players who have supported them. He says that people are always asking about The Elder Scrolls 6, and that the anniversary felt like the right moment to reveal what the game is actually called. The video then displays the logo for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
Xbox Wire published an official post titled “The Elder Scrolls VI: Official Name Reveal.” The page confirms the title through its headline and logo, but it does not include product specifications or a launch schedule. Bethesda's social accounts followed up by saying that development continues and that it will be some time before the studio is ready to share more.
That follow-up is an important qualification. Revealing a subtitle does not mean the game has entered a full release-marketing campaign, nor does it establish that a launch date is close to being announced.
The name-reveal video shows sand and a scroll before the title appears. It also includes an in-universe quotation attributed to Yazar, a Moth Priest serving High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell. The Verge had previously reported that the game would be set in Hammerfell and would explore the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. Gematsu and Game Informer also highlighted the reference to Hammerfell in the quotation accompanying the reveal.
Sentinel is an important city and kingdom in the Elder Scrolls setting's Hammerfell region, making the subtitle a strong geographical clue. However, the public materials do not show a map, the size of the world, quests, characters or combat systems. The desert imagery and the in-universe text may point toward Hammerfell, but they are not enough to confirm specific landscapes, storylines or explorable areas that fans may speculate about.
Bethesda first announced The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 2018 with a brief landscape teaser showing a mountain range. The studio shared very little about the project in the years that followed. The new title reveal comes shortly before the 15th anniversary of Skyrim's release and during Bethesda Game Studios' 40th-anniversary celebrations.
Coverage from The Verge, VGC, Shacknews and Game Informer emphasizes how little the announcement changes about what players know. The game now has an official subtitle, but there is still no full trailer or gameplay footage. PC Gamer reported that Bethesda reiterated after the reveal that it would take some time before the studio was ready to share more. Earlier media reporting about development progress should not be mistaken for an official release schedule.
As of November 3, Bethesda has not announced a release year, launch window, price or complete platform list for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. It has also not said when the next presentation will take place. The Xbox Wire post provides no additional details, and media coverage has not identified a new gameplay demonstration.
The announcement should therefore be treated as an official naming reveal, not a release-date announcement or the start of a full marketing campaign. Players can now refer to the game by its confirmed subtitle, Sentinel, and watch for future official updates about development, platforms and gameplay. Until Bethesda shares those details, specific launch-year predictions and gameplay claims remain unconfirmed.
