On October 19, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified a toothpaste recall as Class II. Pritam International Private Limited, based in Haridwar, India, initiated the voluntary recall on September 10, covering 4,301,700 tubes sold nationwide under the Brush Buddies, evo and ARU brands. The FDA issued 17 voluntary nationwide recalls spanning adult and children's toothpaste.
The FDA cited "current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) deviations" as the reason. CGMP sets baseline quality requirements for the production, processing, packaging and storage of drugs and consumer products. The agency did not disclose the specific deviations or confirm whether contamination or ingredient problems were involved. Good Housekeeping, relaying FDA guidance, noted that CGMP systems assure proper design, monitoring and control of manufacturing.
The FDA defined the recall as Class II, meaning "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote." EatingWell reported the classification may cause "temporary" health consequences. The FDA provided no specific instructions, but as a Class II recall, the safest option is not to use the recalled toothpaste and to throw it out or return it for a refund or replacement.
WBAL-TV reported the recalled lineup includes children's character-themed toothpastes (Brush Buddies Barbie and Hot Wheels; Crayola Silly Scents bubble gum, watermelon and strawberry; My Little Pony bubble gum) plus ice cream-flavored varieties (vanilla, mint chocolate chip, cookies 'n cream, chocolate), along with whitening and value-pack products. Pritam manufactured the toothpaste and Ashtel Studios Inc. distributed it in the U.S. Health.com published lot codes and expiration dates running from February 2027 to March 2028.
The FDA did not provide specific instructions. USA Today, citing the FDA enforcement report, advised consumers not to use the recalled toothpaste and to discard it or return it for a refund or replacement. Consumers can consult the full FDA enforcement report (Event 99849) for recall numbers, lot codes and expiration dates. Questions about the recall can be directed to the FDA at 1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332).
NewsNation reported the recall covers more than 4 million tubes distributed nationwide. People noted the FDA announced the massive recall on Monday, October 19. No serious health events have been reported to date. The FDA and manufacturer must complete the deviation investigation and corrective actions, and further announcements may follow.
