Phantom Blade Zero Is 2026's New Blockbuster as S-GAME Celebrates a Record Launch
Phantom Blade Zero has stormed out of the gate. Beijing-based studio S-GAME announced on its official X account that the wuxia action RPG sold more than 4 million copies worldwide in just 72 hours after launching on October 29 for PlayStation 5 and PC. The game immediately climbed to the top of the Steam charts, making it one of the best-selling launches of 2026.
"Phantom Blade Zero has sold over 4 million copies in just 72 hours! Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support!" the studio wrote. The milestone is especially striking because Phantom Blade Zero is S-GAME's first major release outside of mobile gaming, and it has already become a global commercial success story for Chinese game development.
The player numbers match the sales. Steam Charts data puts the peak concurrent player count above 820,000, sailing past Battlefield 6 and Marvel Rivals over opening weekend. User reviews on Steam sit at "Very Positive," with about 89 percent of roughly 48,000 reviews recommending the game.
Critics have largely agreed. The game holds an 88 on Metacritic, with PC at 88 and PS5 at 87, and an 89 in OpenCritic's Mighty tier with 96 percent of critics recommending it. That outscores both Genshin Impact and Black Myth: Wukong, making it one of the best-reviewed Chinese games ever. IGN awarded it 9 out of 10, with Eurogamer's 6 out of 10 standing out as the rare dissenting score.
Drawing on wuxia, the Chinese storytelling tradition blending martial arts and fantasy, the game follows an assassin trying to clear his name after being framed for murder by his own organization. Reviewers praise its fast, cinematic kung fu combat, more than 50 demanding boss encounters, deep exploration systems, and a richly realized setting. Several outlets call it one of the best action games in years, with a main story running about 25 to 30 hours.
Priced at $59.99 on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, Phantom Blade Zero now faces the longer test: sustaining sales momentum and entering the Game of the Year conversation. With record launch numbers and elite review scores, S-GAME's console debut is already one of 2026's defining releases.
