Sega has released the Version 2.0.0 update for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, beginning the racing game’s second year of post-launch content. The update adds Duel Mode for online and offline one-on-one races, a Super Slot that strengthens selected gadgets, and 15 new gadgets. It also launches the first paid Year Two expansion, the Godzilla Pack, while adding Bayonetta as a free racer unlock.
Sega says the Year Two plan includes six premium downloadable-content packs and eight free updates over the coming year. The release expands more than the roster of characters and vehicles: it also changes online matchmaking, missions, festivals and the in-game shop. Version 2.0.0 is available across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Steam and Epic platforms.
The main addition is Duel Mode, which lets players race one opponent at a time rather than compete only in the game’s traditional larger fields. Players can challenge people online through Duel Match or face computer-controlled crossover rivals in the offline Rival Duel mode.
Duels introduce a dedicated Duel Boost gauge. It fills as time passes and as players use items. Once charged, the boost can be activated to accelerate and create an opportunity to catch an opponent. The mode puts more emphasis on timing, item use and the distance between two racers than a standard multiplayer race.
Rival Duel also provides a route to unlock Bayonetta. Players earn rewards by defeating crossover rivals and progressing through the offline challenges. Online Duel Match lets players compete against opponents around the world. Sega lists Best-of-10 competitions as a future feature, so that format was not yet available with the initial 2.0.0 release.
Version 2.0.0 adds a seventh gadget position called the Super Slot. A gadget placed in this slot has its effects enhanced, giving players another way to build a racing setup around their preferred strategy. To use it, players must unlock the Grand Master Plate by completing at least 40 races. Players who had already met the requirement could access the feature after installing the update.
The patch also adds 15 gadgets and makes competitive balance adjustments. World Match now includes Free Match, which does not affect a player’s rank, alongside the existing Ranked Match option. The update introduces Play Missions, which give players objectives to complete within a set period in exchange for Donpa Tickets and Duel Medals.
A new in-game shop lets players exchange those currencies for items such as characters, titles, decals, horns, auras and music tracks. The expanded progression system gives regular players more goals beyond simply finishing races and improving their online ranking.
The first paid Year Two DLC is the Godzilla Pack. It adds the Godzilla Escape course and three themed vehicles: Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe and Mothra Surf. The pack also includes music and sound effects tied to the collaboration. Sega confirmed that the paid content became available on November 4 and can be obtained through Season Pass Two.
Bayonetta is a separate free character update. Players can unlock her by defeating crossover opponents through Rival Duel progression. The two releases therefore have different access models: the Godzilla content is paid DLC, while Bayonetta is earned through gameplay.
The launch also includes a limited-time Godzilla Festival scheduled to begin on November 6 in Japan. Sega’s Japanese announcement says the event will use team-based online races and reward players with in-game items for earning Festival points.
The update revises the World Match experience by adding Rivals of similar skill levels. Beating a Rival can provide additional Donpa Tickets. Free Match is designed for casual play without affecting a player’s rank, while Ranked Match retains the competitive progression familiar to existing players.
The Festival system has also been adjusted. Push Square reported that events now last 10 days instead of three, and team winning streaks are retained even if a team finishes an event in second place. The patch includes multiplayer balance changes, interface adjustments and bug fixes.
In a PlayStation Blog interview, the development team said Duel Mode was designed to offer a different experience from standard 12-player races by focusing on the strategy of a one-on-one contest. The team also described the Super Slot as a way to create more combinations and encourage players to experiment with gadget setups.
Sega’s Year Two roadmap calls for six premium DLC packs and eight free updates. The current release delivers the first Godzilla pack, a free Bayonetta unlock, Duel Mode, the Super Slot and 15 gadgets. More racers, vehicles, courses and activities are planned, although Sega has not provided a complete release calendar for every item.
The confirmed changes are the availability of Version 2.0.0, the launch of the Godzilla paid pack and the addition of Bayonetta as a free unlock. Best-of-10 competitions and other Year Two content remain future additions. Players should distinguish between features available now and items that Sega has announced but not yet released.
