NVIDIA has released a new trailer showing how DLSS 5 neural rendering will change the lighting, materials and environmental details in Hogwarts Legacy. The company says the update will arrive on November 5, bringing its 3D-Guided Neural Rendering technology to the game on GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards, RTX Spark systems and GeForce NOW Ultimate. Players will need to install the game update and enable the Neural Rendering option in the settings.
The technology is not simply an upscaling feature or a conventional frame-rate boost. NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as an AI rendering stage that enhances lighting responses and material details in a scene. The company says developers can tune the intensity and the areas where the effect is applied, with the goal of preserving the game’s original art direction and character identity.
NVIDIA says DLSS 5 uses the frame rendered by the game engine, including its geometry, textures and lighting buffers, as the foundation for neural rendering. The AI model then adds detail to lighting, shadows, reflections and material responses. Unlike traditional DLSS Super Resolution, which reconstructs an image at a higher resolution, DLSS 5 operates as a later stage in the graphics pipeline and gives developers controls over where the enhancement is applied.
The new trailer highlights areas of Hogsmeade, including rooftops, moss, flower boxes, stone walls and recessed archways. NVIDIA says the technology improves contact shadows, local contrast and texture detail, creating a stronger sense of depth in the environment. Avalanche Software said its developers worked with NVIDIA to tune environmental settings, tone and skin-structure parameters to maintain the game’s original visual intent.
The company also describes semantic AI masking and engine-level masking, which allow developers to isolate particular characters, objects or environmental elements. That is intended to prevent an enhancement designed for scenery from unintentionally changing the appearance of a character.
NVIDIA’s announcement says DLSS 5 neural rendering will become available in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5. It will support GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop and laptop GPUs, RTX Spark systems and GeForce NOW Ultimate. Players can install the update and switch on Neural Rendering in the game’s options menu.
NVIDIA recommends combining the feature with DLSS Super Resolution, Multi Frame Generation, Reflex and Ray Reconstruction for the best overall image quality and performance. The company has not promised the same frame rate or visual result across all hardware configurations.
NVIDIA’s GeForce Game Ready Driver 621.14, released on November 4, adds support for the Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 update. The driver also includes optimizations for World of Warcraft: Forever and the new Slaughter Mode in DOOM: The Dark Ages. Neowin reported that the update fixes a color-display issue in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and a video playback problem affecting some RTX 50 Series and RTX Spark systems after an earlier driver update.
DLSS 5 has already prompted debate among players about how much AI should change a game’s appearance. Some earlier demonstrations drew criticism because AI processing appeared to alter faces and move away from the original art style. NVIDIA is now emphasizing developer controls, saying studios can adjust the strength of the effect and use masks to limit changes to selected areas.
The final result will depend on how Avalanche Software has tuned the technology for Hogwarts Legacy. A more realistic lighting model may improve environmental detail, but some players may prefer the original image style. The ability to preserve character identity is one of the points NVIDIA and the developer have highlighted in their announcement.
NVIDIA says its latest model is twice as fast as the previous version, has a 24% smaller parameter footprint at roughly 118 million parameters and uses 20% less VRAM at 4K. Those are company-reported technical figures; actual performance will vary with GPU, resolution, settings and scene complexity.
NVIDIA says War Thunder is expected to add DLSS 5 in mid-November, while Where Winds Meet is scheduled to receive support on November 23. The company says the technology has progressed from early demonstrations requiring two RTX 5090 graphics cards to a version designed to run on a single RTX 50 Series GPU.
The confirmed development is that Hogwarts Legacy will receive DLSS 5 neural rendering on November 5, supported by NVIDIA’s new driver and an official trailer demonstrating changes to lighting and materials. The actual image quality, frame-rate impact and performance across different graphics cards will need to be assessed after the update becomes available.
